asbestos management in Northern Ireland and Ireland

Asbestos management covers a number of areas of expertise including the following:

  • Asbestos Management
  • Asbestos Surveys
  • Asbestos Awareness Training
  • Asbestos Encapsulation
  • Asbestos Disposal
  • Asbestos Removals
  • Asbestos Testing
  • Asbestos Management

The purpose of asbestos management is to prevent the exposure to airborne asbestos now and for the duration of the time asbestos containing materials (ACMs) are present on your premises.

To do this you must identify the person within your organisation who will be responsible for that management. The designated dutyholder must put in place a written asbestos management plan which will include an asbestos register. This register should include the location and conditions of the ACMs.

As holders of the BOHS P405 qualification AMCI are ideally placed to assist in the production of this management plan for the client.

Asbestos Surveys

The aim of an asbestos survey is, as far as reasonably practicable, to locate and assess the condition of all the ACMs present in the building and its purpose is to present the information collected in a way which allows you to assess and manage the risk. There are two types of asbestos survey referred to in HSG264

Management Survey : Standard sampling, identification and assessment survey (sampling survey)

Refurbishment/Demolition : Full access sampling and identification survey (pre-demolition/major refurbishment survey)

As holders of the BOHS P402 qualification AMCI surveyors are qualified to carry out all types of asbestos surveys.

  • The uses and locations of asbestos materials in buildings and plant
  • The type of work you are allowed to do by law
  • What the CAR Regulations require you to do
  • Work methods and equipment you need to use to do the task properly
  • The correct choice, use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Decontamination procedures
  • Maintenance of control measures
  • Emergency procedures
  • Waste disposal
  • Asbestos Encapsulation

Encapsulation or sealing allows asbestos to be retained in place, deferring the need for removal to a later date.

AMCI can arrange to have this work undertaken using one of our partners in this area.

Disposing of Asbestos

As a licensed waste carrier AMCI can come to your site and collect asbestos waste and transport to a licensed waste facility. In doing so we can provide documentation to show that this materials has been disposed of under current waste regulations.

Removal of Asbestos

AMCI can remove all types of non-licensable asbestos. We can arrange and manage the removal of licensable asbestos using one of our partners or the clients preferred removals contractor.

Asbestos Testing

AMCI can arrange to have suspect materials sampled and analysed by a UKAS accredited laboratory. This can be either via a site visit by one of our surveyors or by receiving the suspect sample at our premises.

Samples are analysed by a UKAS accredited laboratory and results provided to the client by email, fax or post within 2 working days or earlier if required (surcharges apply).
